Meet Shae Habersham

Y4ED Community member, Shae Habersham

The Yoga for Eating Disorders Community is thrilled to feature our member, Shae Habersham. Here’s what Shae has to say about being a part of the Y4ED group.

“The Y4ED community is just that, a community. I am grateful for that. I am so thankful that I stumbled across this Facebook group because I found it exactly when I definitely needed it.

I have had a mind-body disconnect for years. I participated in yoga groups whenever I was in treatment for my eating disorder over the years and when they were available, but I never felt comfortable in the groups. I hated moving. When I decided that I wanted to truly work on that mind-body disconnect and attend yoga classes, I was finally able to feel more comfortable in yoga, and I finally felt okay to move my body without feeling guilty for doing it.

The two courses through the Y4ED website that I have taken so far that dealt with mindfulness and also writing and body image have begun to allow me to work on that mind-body disconnect even more. I seriously cannot wait to participate in more of them!

The free recorded yoga sessions and guided meditations on the Y4ED website are equally as helpful. As I first mentioned Y4ED is a community, and this community is not like any other eating disorder group that I have been a part of either. Learning how to find comfort and being grounded on my yoga mat is a tremendous gift to me, and my mat is my safe, happy place. I know if I need help finding my way back being comfortable in my happy, safe place when I begin to lose my way is such a blessing, and I truly can’t describe how it makes me feel.”

Many thanks to Shae, and all our wonderful community members!
